Scare of many sharps and flats in piano music?

Kayla asked:

Okay so if the piece has no or one or two sharps and flats (key signatures), I am okay but I freak out if I see four or more. It is not like I don’t know which notes are sharp or flat in the piece, but it has to do with sight reading effectively. Any practice piano book recommendation please? iPod applications? Anything at all? Thank you.

What is one of the hardest things about learning to read music and play a musical instrument?

Santa Claus(e)-The pianist. asked:

I am teaching myself to play the piano(keyboard) and I am doing a good job I have
1)Mastered all the notes found in the white and black keys on the piano and learned to walk up to the piano and say each note name.
2)Mastered naming and counting intervals
3)mastered major scales(example) the 5th note of the A major scale is E.
4)I know all the letter notes for the treble and bass staffs and clefs.
I know too much about piano and I am not going to stop learning new things.

Is it very difficult to get into a college’s music school?

davematthewsrocks27 asked:

I want to be a music teacher, and for that I need to get into a music program at a college. Obviously, there are better colleges for music that are going to be nearly impossible to get into, but as a general rule, what is the process like? I know there are auditions involved, but are these the only things college’s music programs look at when accepting you? Do you have to be the next Miles Davis on trumpet (which is what I play) to get in, or just proficient enough to sight-read and play without difficulty?

I also play drums (I am better at drums than trumpet or anything else), and I am trying to learn guitar and piano for the theory. Will these help?

Also, what steps would I take to apply to a college’s music school?

Looking for software to teach sight reading at the piano?

pulgabucky asked:

We just bought Guitar Hero for the kids and I’m fascinated with how it teaches music. I just wish it included a representation of actual music notation along with the rest of its notation.

I would love to turn it sideways, add another staff, use actual notes, complete with actual durations the way Guitar Hero does, and be able to control the speed for practicing. I’ve been out of school for a long time. My synthesizer in college had actual patch cords that I had to document and map, so I’m WAY out of the loop.

I have to think that there are some good products out there. All of my Internet searches have yielded software that’s too simple. Any guidance would be appreciated.
