the red shore asked: ill be attending this fall… ill be taking music theory 1, sight and ear training 1 but.. i need to audition for an applied music class and it says i need to know how to read music… it makes no sense to me that ill be taking music theory to learn how to read music, but at the same time they already want me to know how to read it??? i play guitar by the way.. maybe that changes something?

grrluknow asked: they can sight read a piece really well the first time playing it, would you consider them gifted? Is it really unusual for a pianist to be both an excellent sight reader and someone who can play by ear? If the musician can hear a piece of music and then write out a piano score for it, do you think that’s particularly gifted? (I’m not a musician myself. I am just curious about it.) Thanks.
