Tomorrow, I might be auditioning for my school’s a cappella choir. Might is the key word here. Today, I went in during lunch and asked my choir teacher the requirements to get into the choir. He told me it’s a difficult audition, which the results of are partially based on one’s ability to sight-read music. Great. I can’t sight-read.
Should I still go try out? He explained all the other requirements, which I can meet (tonal color, maturity, etc.) but I am worried that sight-reading might be the dealbreaker.
Apparently, this choir is usually for upperclassmen (I’m a sophomore) but there are underclassmen in it. I’m new at my school and reeeally want to get involved in something, and other than theater, which isn’t an option right now, choir is basically the only other thing I’m even remotely interested or somewhat good at.
If you have any sight-reading tips (I’m a very fast learner), have been in a similar situation, or are a music teacher yourself it would be beyond great if you would answer my question. Thank you so much! Love, Eleanor

I know a little alto, FACEG (lines) EGBD (spaces) not too hard to remember, but sight reading in the alto clef… =O is a diffrent story.

I don’t think the tenor cleff is even used much, if not at all anymore. It’s so close in range to alto I think it’s rather pointless, like the french violin clef (yes, there is such a thing, it’s a long gone G clef) is to the the treble clef.
